About the Congressional Veteran Commendation

 

The Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC) is a nominations-based program designed to recognize the wartime sacrifices and peacetime community involvement of residents of the 7th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. The community will submit nomination applications for veterans that they believe have made significant community contributions to the 7th District. The program intends to emphasize what veterans did when they returned home and how they made a difference in their community.

The 2017 CVC honorees will be announced and recognized by Congressman Pat Meehan at a special ceremony on November 6th.

Eligibility

  • Veteran must currently reside in the 7th District. To verify the veteran’s district, please visit www.house.gov to enter their zip code and address.
  • Nominee must have served on active duty during wartime in the United States Armed Forces, or was activated from the National Guard/Reserves for purposes other than training.
  • Veteran retired from the Armed Forces or was honorably discharged.
  • This award is for living veterans, and will not be awarded posthumously.

Nomination Instructions 

The nomination form is due September 11, 2017. Please send the following items, in one cohesive package, to:

  • A completed nomination form.
  • 1-2 page letter, address to Congressman Meehan, which details why you believe that the Nominee should receive the 7th Congressional District’s Congressional Veteran Commendation. The letter should detail how the veteran has made a difference in their community since returning home from service.
  • Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty – DD214 Form.
  • Current photo of the Nominee.
  • Copies of photos, records, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia, which helps tell the story of the veteran’s military and community service.
