  Fire Department Answers
   1. What are the Firefighter qualifications?
Anyone 14 years of age or older is encouraged and invited to join the Fire Department and become a Firefighter. Firefighters must complete rigorous training prior to participation in fire fighting activities. Anyone interested in obtaining more details can contact their local fire station or the Fire Commissioner at 610-898-1452 ext. 136
   2. What is the Firefighter's normal work schedule?
Volunteer firefighters may be called to duty at any time, day or night!
   3. How can I support my local fire department?
By volunteering in our new Department. We have non-fire fighting personnel who assist at fires with the Canteen and Rehab Unit.
   4. Who do I call to report a fire hazard?
Fire Marshall's Office 610-898-1452 ext. 136.
   5. What are the rules and regulations for outdoor burning?
There is no open burning allowed in the Township except with a burning permit which is permitted under very tight guidelines at a cost of $25 per permit. At no time are burn barrels allowed in the Township.
   6. Are there fire department tours?
Yes, contact your local fire station or the Township Commissioner.
   7. What is the closest fire station to me?

  10. Where do I get a copy of the Township of Spring Fire Code?
The Township has adopted the BOCA Building Codes 1996 and the BOCA Fire Codes 1996 as their building and fire codes. Copies are available in any library or you can stop by the office to review the particular code of interest.
  11. Is open burning allowed in the Township of Spring?
No
  12.Does the Fire Service fill swimming pools or flood ice rinks?
No, these activities have been restricted by the water company.
  13. Does the Fire Service pump out basements?
Yes, in emergency situations the fire department will assist with pumping out basements.
  14. Does the Fire Department offer CPR and/or First Aid courses?
Generally the Fire Department offers CPR and First Aid on a yearly basis. Should you or your organization want a First Aid or CPR course scheduled, contact the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
  15. How do I dispose of hazardous materials in my garage/shed?
The County has two days set aside each year for the disposal of hazardous materials. Watch your local newspaper for dates, times, and places or call the Berks County Recycling Center at 610-378-5117.
  16. Can leaves and grass clippings be burned in the Township?
No
  17. Who do I call with a burning complaint or question?
The Fire Commissioner at the Township Office 610-898-1452 ext. 136. If it is suspected that someone is burning illegally after normal business hours, call the Spring Township Police Department.
