SILVER ANNIVERSARY – “SAVE THE CABOOSE” CAMPAIGN

25 years ago, a green and white railroad caboose numbered 92906 took up residency at a Spring Township park named “Red Caboose Park”.  In keeping with the name of the park, the caboose was repainted red and the lettering was restored.  Since then the “Red Caboose” has presided over the neighborhood park and has watched thousands of local youth and adults playing basketball, baseball, volleyball and football and has hosted hundreds of picnics at the pavilion.  The “Caboose” is an historical symbol of this area’s past.

As with any treasure from the past, the “Caboose” has begun to show signs of severe aging.  Now is the time for the community to join together to help preserve this local symbol of a time long past and the many lives that were forged by the Reading Railroad.  This project will take both time and money.  The Spring Twp. Lions Club has stepped up to the plate to coach this community effort and they are seeking both financial and volunteer support.  Their plan of work includes repairing the broken windows, rotted floor boards and rusted areas of the “Caboose”.  Once the repairs are completed, the “Caboose” will receive a fresh coat of paint (red of course).  You don’t need to be a skilled repair person or an artistic painter to join our team.  We have very knowledgeable coaches who will guide our team players every step of the way.  If you’re just not up to this type of task, there are still other ways you can help.  Volunteers need support and you could help us provide lunches for them or you could just make a financial contribution.  Every minute and every penny helps!

If you are interested in joining your neighbors on this historic venture, please contact:
The Spring Township Lions Club, Patrick 610-927-2313 E-Mail to hot911mgb@earthlink.net, Ron 610-468-7920,  Larry 610-678-6690, or Cliff 610-376-5615.  Financial contributions can be sent to the Township of Spring Preservation & Conservation Society, c/o Parks & Recreation Department, 2800 Shillington Road, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.  For more information please call:  610-678-5399. Download form and send to above address or email.
