Det. Hlavac graduated from the Harrisburg Police Academy in 2001, and worked with the Mechanicsburg Police Department until 2006, when he came to Spring Township. Det. Hlavac has enjoyed working with kids as a police officer. He has previously taught D.A.R.E to grades K through 6, as well as currently installs car seats as a certified child safety seat technician for the department. Det. Hlavac spent half his life in Long Island, NY and the other half in Charleston, SC before coming to PA. Prior to becoming a police officer, he was a professional firefighter. In his free time Det. Hlavac enjoys many outdoor activities such as boating, camping, and traveling, as well as extreme sports such as snowboarding, wakeboarding, and surfing. His hobbies include saltwater aquariums and activities with his dogs.
