SHOPPING FOR AN ELECTRIC GENERATION SUPPLIER?

On January 1, 2010 your electric rates will increase approximately 30 % as deregulation of electricity becomes effective for PPL customers.  Met-Ed customers will realize deregulation January 1, 2011.  You have a right to choose your electric generating company due to the “Electric Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act” signed into law in 1996 by former Governor Tom Ridge.

You are only selecting your electric generating company, PPL will continue to distribute and maintain your electric service.  Additionally, you will continue to receive only one electric bill.

You may decide to retain PPL as your electric supplier.  Nothing is required.   However if you choose to shop for a supplier we would like to assist you by recommending that you go to the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission’s website at www.puc.state.pa.us.  This website provides a listing of PUC licensed electric generating companies to choose from.  Contact information is included so that you call to secure quotes.  It may be helpful if you know approximately how many kilowatts you use annually.  This information is on your electric bill.

To find the listing of suppliers click on the following link on PUC's website.  http://www.puc.state.pa.us/electric/electric_suppliers.aspx
