Stress Awareness Month

Since 1992, the month of April has been designated as Stress Awareness Month.
Its purpose is to promote awareness about the effects that stress has on our lives and to educate us about healthy ways to relieve it.
This year, more than most, we are well aware of what stress can do to us so we will focus on relieving it.
The Parks and Recreation Department will offer weekly suggestions for healthy ways that you, your family and your friends can relieve some stress this month.

  1.  Go outside in the morning, take a long slow deep breath and watch the sun come up.
  2.  If you have a flower garden, check on the progress of those bulbs you planted last fall.
  3.  Start planning and maybe even planting your vegetable garden.
  4. Take a walk down the street, around the block, around the neighborhood or through the park. It doesn’t matter how far or where you go, just go.
  5. Practice gratitude and kindness.

Last week we promised to send additional information about safe and healthy activities for you and your family.
Our resource of the week is the National Wildlife Federation. (NWF)
The NWF (www.nwf.org) is offering the following resources FREE through June 30th.

• Digital subscription to Ranger Rick Magazine

• Parent and educator guides

• Ideas for backyard outdoor activities

• Craft projects and recipes

• Videos of wildlife from all over the world

• Fun facts about wildlife

• Games and activities

Lots of safe, fun ideas on this site – www.nwf.org.

We look forward to seeing you soon in our parks and programs!
